Leonardo is one of Europe’s most powerful supercomputers, installed at the Cineca data center within the Bologna Technopole. A strategic infrastructure supporting scientific research, artificial intelligence, advanced simulations, and data analytics.
The Lighting Challenge
Ensuring optimal visual conditions and a stable operating temperature in an ultra-high-density technological environment running 24/7 and subject to strict thermal-control requirements.

The White Space hosting Leonardo extends across more than 1,000 m² completely free of pillars, ensuring maximum flexibility in the organization of IT infrastructures.
The Goal
To implement a lighting system capable of delivering uniformity, reliability, and continuity of service in a mission-critical environment.

For this project, 3F Zeta DR UGR was selected, a lighting system designed for technologically advanced applications where visual comfort and efficiency must coexist.
Why It Was Chosen
• Uniform light distribution.
• Glare control thanks to DR UGR optics.
• High reliability for continuous operation.
• Perfect integration with the operational requirements of the data center.

Monitoring and maintenance activities require maximum readability of information displayed on screens and equipment.
Added Value
The DR UGR screen reduces glare, improving visibility of control interfaces and enhancing operator comfort.

In a data center, every watt counts.
3F Zeta DR technology helps limit heat emission within the environment, working alongside air-conditioning systems to maintain ideal operating conditions for the supercomputer.
LEED Gold Certification
The Bologna Technopole has achieved LEED Gold certification, one of the most authoritative international standards for sustainable construction.
Lighting Contribution:
• High energy efficiency.
• Reduced energy consumption.
• Long service life of luminaires.
• Lower environmental impact throughout the product life cycle.
