A port is a complex organism. Behind its large operational areas are offices, connecting routes, technical rooms and logistics spaces, each with profoundly different activities, environmental conditions and lighting requirements.
For the Port of Savona project, 3F Filippi addressed this complexity by starting from the function of each space. The goal was not to repeat a single solution throughout the facility, but to design the most suitable light for every environment, bringing together performance, comfort, reliability and energy management.
In offices, people's visual wellbeing is the priority. In technical rooms, robustness and resistance to environmental conditions come into play. In circulation areas, light must guide and accompany people, while logistics spaces require high output combined with precise control of luminous flux.
The result is an articulated project in which 3F LED Panel, 3F Linda HS, 3F Reno and 3F Cub meet different needs while remaining part of one coherent lighting vision.
Workplaces are occupied for many consecutive hours. Here, lighting quality cannot be assessed only by the amount of light available: uniformity, visual comfort and long-term reliability are equally important.
3F LED Panel was selected for the office areas, providing diffuse, comfortable light suited to activities that require concentration and prolonged occupancy. Its uniform distribution helps create a visually balanced environment, avoiding excessive luminance differences and making everyday work more comfortable.
This is complemented by a particularly important feature for a facility designed for continuous use: a guaranteed useful life of 80,000 hours L80/B10. The project can therefore be considered not only in terms of initial performance, but also in terms of maintaining that performance and reducing long-term maintenance requirements.
Office lighting thus becomes a discreet presence: it accompanies people throughout the day without tiring the eyes, while ensuring continuity and reliability.
Moving into the technical rooms, the conditions change completely and so does the lighting solution.
In a port infrastructure, certain environments can expose luminaires and components to particularly demanding conditions. Product selection must therefore consider not only lighting quality, but also the luminaire's ability to maintain its characteristics in the presence of potentially corrosive agents.
3F Linda in the HS version was installed in these areas, a configuration specifically selected for its resistance to corrosive agents. Robustness and reliability become an integral part of the design.
The product is therefore selected not only for its lighting performance, but according to the real context in which it must operate. This is a key principle of the Port of Savona project: adapting technology to the environment, not the environment to the technology.
Between offices, operational areas and technical rooms are spaces with an apparently simpler but equally important function: allowing people to move through the facility naturally and comfortably.
White 3F Reno luminaires were used in the circulation areas, integrating into the architecture with a clean and discreet visual presence. Here, light must first make routes immediately legible, accompanying movement without becoming visually intrusive.
The white finish further supports the luminaire's integration into the space, allowing the lighting effect, rather than the fixture itself, to define the environment.
It is a different function from offices or technical areas, but it follows the same design logic: using the light that is needed to make every space easier to experience and understand.
Logistics areas present yet another scenario. The scale of the spaces and operational activities require high luminous output, but this does not mean that the system must always operate at the same intensity.
3F Cub luminaires were selected for these areas, meeting the demanding lighting requirements of logistics environments and incorporating DALI control.
The ability to regulate luminous flux allows the lighting to adapt to different times of day and actual operational needs. When more light is required, the system can deliver the necessary performance; when demand decreases, the output can be reduced.
This management approach avoids constantly using the maximum available power and therefore helps limit energy waste without compromising the functionality of the space.
The Port of Savona is therefore an example of a project in which there is no universal solution. Four different solutions are coordinated within a single lighting project built around the real needs of the spaces.
