Piacenza Railway Station is one of the main transport hubs within the Italian railway network, a strategic infrastructure that welcomes thousands of passengers every day while managing an intensive flow of regional and long-distance trains.

In an operational environment active twenty-four hours a day, lighting quality plays a fundamental role in ensuring safety, wayfinding and visual comfort at every moment of the day. From waiting areas and platform canopies to access routes leading to the tracks, every space must provide reliable, uniform and consistent lighting conditions, enhancing the travel experience while supporting the daily activities of railway personnel.

Railway infrastructures are particularly demanding environments, characterised by constant exposure to weather conditions, stringent safety standards and the need to ensure uninterrupted operation.

The project's objective was to develop a lighting system capable of combining robustness, energy efficiency and low maintenance requirements while ensuring outstanding visual comfort for passengers and full compliance with the specifications required by Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI).

The solution also had to deliver consistent long-term performance, helping reduce infrastructure operating costs while improving the overall reliability of the installation.

For the lighting of the station and its platform canopies, 3F X8 Rail was selected, the luminaire specifically developed by 3F Filippi for railway applications.

Designed in full compliance with the technical specifications of Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI), 3F X8 Rail has been engineered to meet the demanding requirements of transport infrastructures, where reliability, service continuity and long operating life are essential.

Its high-efficiency LED technology, combined with robust construction and outstanding lighting performance, provides effective illumination for both circulation areas and platform canopies, ensuring excellent lighting uniformity and optimal spatial perception.

The lighting of the platform canopies and station areas has been carefully designed to improve spatial readability, facilitate passenger wayfinding and enhance the perception of safety during evening and night-time hours.

Uniform light distribution eliminates shadowed areas along pedestrian routes and waiting areas, providing optimal visual conditions for both passengers and railway personnel responsible for infrastructure management.

Thanks to Safe Flicker technology, with guaranteed PstLM ≤ 1 and SVM ≤ 0.4, 3F X8 Rail delivers stable, flicker-free illumination, improving visual comfort and the overall perception of railway environments.
