When quality requires highly specialised environments

When quality requires highly specialised environments

In the food industry, every stage of the process contributes to the quality of the final product. Temperature, environmental conditions, hygiene and correct preservation must be controlled precisely, especially when working with a delicate raw material such as meat.

This is the context in which Lanza operates. Based in Negrar di Valpolicella, the company has been active in meat processing and preservation since 1935, combining modern production methods with the original identity of a family-run business.

Within the facility, the cold rooms used to preserve products are particularly demanding environments from a lighting perspective as well.

It is not enough simply to bring light into the space. The luminaire must maintain reliable performance in extremely low temperatures and high humidity, while ensuring that operators have correct visibility during their daily activities.

To meet these requirements, Lanza chose 3F Filippi as its lighting partner, developing a solution around the actual operating conditions.

Lighting at -30 °C

The very low-temperature cold rooms are the technical heart of the project.

3F Tank ICE Extreme was selected for these environments, a version of the 3F Tank family developed specifically for applications characterised by particularly severe conditions.

The luminaire is designed to operate in environments with temperatures down to -30 °C and relative humidity up to 95%, conditions in which reliability and continuity of operation become essential requirements.

The challenge therefore concerns not only the amount of available light, but the ability of the entire system to continue performing correctly in an environment far removed from normal operating conditions.

In applications of this kind, luminaire selection becomes an integral part of the design of the production environment. Technology must adapt to the conditions of the space and continue to deliver performance precisely where a conventional solution may not be sufficient.

Seeing correctly also means evaluating correctly

Seeing correctly also means evaluating correctly

In the food industry, the quality of light takes on an additional meaning.

Colour is one of the elements through which the human eye immediately perceives and evaluates food. Inadequate visual rendering can alter the perception of the raw material and make its characteristics appear less natural.

For this reason, in the Lanza project the LED technology of 3F Tank ICE Extreme was also selected for its ability to render the colour of the meat faithfully.

Light thus becomes a working tool. Correct colour perception helps operators observe the product under appropriate conditions, visually preserving its natural appearance and supporting activities that require close attention to the raw material.

Resistance to extreme conditions and quality of light are therefore not separate requirements: together they help create an environment that is more functional for people and more consistent with the quality standards of the processed product.

A solution for every area of the facility

A solution for every area of the facility

The project is not limited to the cold rooms.

The other areas of the facility were illuminated with two established 3F Filippi solutions: 3F Linda and Beta 235, selected to combine reliability, durability and lighting quality in spaces dedicated to different working activities.

The project therefore takes on a broader dimension. Where conditions become extreme, 3F Tank ICE Extreme provides a highly specialised response. In the other production spaces, 3F Linda and Beta 235 create functional and efficient lighting consistent with the facility’s operational requirements.

Different products are used within one design logic: selecting the most appropriate solution according to the environment and the activities carried out within it.

This approach makes it possible to view the installation not as a simple sequence of luminaires, but as a system designed around the production process.

Reliability also means reducing what is unnecessary

Reliability also means reducing what is unnecessary

In a production environment, the efficiency of a lighting solution is also measured over time.

According to the project documentation, the use of 3F Filippi LED solutions improved lighting quality and the visibility of both working areas and raw materials, while helping to reduce energy consumption, maintenance requirements and operating costs.

In an application involving cold rooms and demanding operating conditions, reducing the need for intervention also means greater continuity of the lighting system.

The Lanza project therefore illustrates a principle that goes beyond this specific application: efficiency comes from choosing technology according to the real conditions in which it will have to operate.

From the -30 °C cold rooms to the other areas of the facility, every solution contributes to the same objective: creating reliable, efficient light capable of supporting over time a process in which quality cannot be left to chance. Even when conditions become extreme, the quality of light must remain constant.
